I Found My Wedding Dress In My Mother’s Closet

Many brides do not plan beyond their wedding day what they will do with their wedding dress.  All the trips to bridal shops, all the trying-ons, the comparing, the consulting, the researching, the altering and the adoring of their precious wedding gown comes to a momentary hold after changing into their “I’m-going-away-to-my-honeymoon” attire. She may have changed in the room of the hotel where the reception was held, or in her own room at her parent’s place, leaving maid of honor, mom or someone else to pack and take care of her gown. After the honeymoon is over, she may ask...

A Winter Wedding in Grand Cayman

A Wedding Dress StoryBy: Rebecca R. “My husband Cody and I got married on December 8th on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. I wanted a dress that was classic and romantic, but was fun and modern enough to match our Caribbean setting. My mom, aunt, brother and I started shopping for my dress in Atlanta, where my husband and I live. This Sienna by Casablanca dress was the first one I tried on at Suite Bridal and we all loved it, but I was sure the first dress couldn’t be the one!  I tried on at least a dozen more dresses, but couldn’t get this one out...

A Tribute

A Wedding Dress StoryBy: Michelle N. “My parents Michel & Elizabeth D. were married on July 25, 1959 in LaPorte, Indiana. My father is an immigrant from Belgium and my mother was an immigrant from the Netherlands. My mother purchased her dress at Robertson’s department store in South Bend, Indiana. Her gown is being restored as a tribute.“ Michelle’s Mother’s Wedding Dress Restoration When we received Michelle’s mother’s lace gown, it had moderately aged with yellowing and oxidation stains primarily at the top of the dress. A few...

Laura’s Dress was “Love at First Sight”

A Wedding Dress StoryBy Laura H. “The search for my wedding dress was such a special day! My mom, mother-in-law, maid of honor, bridesman, and I made a day of it. It is one of my favorite memories of the wedding planning experience.  My dress came from RK Bridal in New York City, and was one of the first dresses I tried on. True to the experience of many brides, my wedding dress ended up being nothing like I had imaged I would wear on my wedding day. I thought for sure that I didn’t want a strapless dress or beading, but the consultant encouraged me to give it a...

Third Time’s the Charm for Ariella

Wedding Dress StoryBy Ariella “After having no luck at the first wedding dress store that I visited, I was discouraged and doubtful on whether or not I would find a dress for my special day.  Those feelings disappeared as soon as I walked into Here Comes the Bride in San Diego, where my older sister had found her beautiful wedding dress. I guess the third time really is the charm, as the third dress that I tried on turned out to be the one! With its unusual jeweled top, open back, and graceful skirt, I knew that I had found my dress!”...

Brittany’s Rooftop Wedding and Gorgeous Lace Gown

Wedding Dress StoryBy Brittany R. “I got my wedding dress in December 2017 at the Pronovias NYC sample sale.  I knew I wanted an all lace wedding gown with sleeves that felt timeless, but I had trouble staying at my $3k budget. After going to about 5 different bridal salons, I went to the Pronovias sample sale and found my dress! I got married October 13, 2018 at the Ravel Hotel in Long Island City, right over the bridge of Manhattan. Our ceremony was on the rooftop overlooking the NYC skyline. We had 125 people and had the reception also at the Ravel in...

Adrienne’s Beautiful Custom Gown

Wedding Dress StoryBy Adrienne V. I wore my wedding dress to my outdoor July 2018 wedding at Fernbrook Farms. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for when I first started looking for dresses, but the dress I chose was actually one of the first I tried on. Adrienne’s stunning dress was perfect for an outdoor wedding. I ultimately bought my dress from the designer herself at one of her flagship stores in NYC- Sarah Seven Bridal. The back of the gown’s detail is absolutely lovely! I combined the dress I loved with the train of another style gown that...

(Minimum purchase of $298) What fabric is your wedding dress made of?  If you answer satin, you are actually identifying the fabric weave and finish of your dress fabric but not the fabric fiber itself. Who Should Clean My Gown? – Kimberly’s Story

by Kimberly H. I bought my wedding dress at David’s Bridal. The only reason I went to David’s Bridal is because they were the only bridal store that sold petite wedding gowns. The designer is Oleg Cassini — Jacqueline Kennedy’s designer.  I always loved the way she dressed: classic, elegant and sophisticated. I loved this dress after I tried it on. After my wedding, I Googled dry cleaners in Charlotte, North Carolina  and surrounding areas to have my dress cleaned. Heritage Garment Preservation came up — and it was even recommended by The Knot! — but I...

Vera Wang Transformation: Before and After

This beautiful silk and lace Vera Wang Luxe is the perfect wedding dress for the beautiful and dainty bride. Unfortunately, after a long wedding day and a dry cleaning attempt gone wrong (oh no!!), this beautiful dress was looking a little worse for wear.  The delicate gown suffered from makeup stains, sweat stains, and a severely dirty hemline (with who knows what on it!) when it arrived at Heritage Garment Preservation. But it was no match for our hand-cleaning treatment! BEFORE AFTER The delicate fabrics that made up the Vera Wang wedding dress were in good hands at...
