Who doesn’t love a surprise?  Thomas F.,  one of our  few, but fabulous male customers recently surprised his wife by having us restore her wedding gown and veil.  He originally planned the surprise for their wedding anniversary, but in the end he couldn’t wait and gave her the restored wedding gown on her birthday.  She was thrilled!

The vintage wedding gown was made of China silk and had lace on the collar, bodice, cuffs, waist and hemline, but had yellowed all over. The veil had a matching lace trim all around with glued on appliques and pearls.

Wedding Gown Restoration

Our expert staff hand cleaned the vintage wedding gown and veil,  then whitened them with a chemical soak. Hand pressing of the gown and veil followed. Museum Method preservation, which is a hanging preservation, helps prevent mold, mildew and permanent creasing from developing. It was chosen for long term storage.

Although the fabric was quite delicate, this long sleeve vintage wedding gown turned out beautifully.  Because the headpiece had a metal frame which rusts during treatment, we removed it then treated the tulle and lace. We re-assembled the headpiece and attached the tulle.  Both dress and veil looked lovely when we finished.
