A Wedding Dress Story

By Emily Avery Chies
My husband, Tom Chies proposed to me in the ‘London’ area of Universal Studios in late January of 2016. Our first big trip together was to London to see our NFL teams play each other in Wembley stadium (I’m a Falcons fan and he’s a Lions fan) so that area of Universal had a lot of meaning.

I’m a planner (a no brainer in the accounting field) and had researched wedding gowns quite extensively before I went to look at any. I know my body type and what would flatter me the most and I was pretty sold on the Kitty Chen line of gowns.

Luckily, there was a spot fairly close by (Studio I Do in Virginia Beach, VA) that carried her line and I knew I had to go check it out.

I tried on numerous gowns, but, as I expected, I ended up settling on one in that line (dress is called Chelsea).

We were married on June 10th, 2017 at the Grande Ritz Palm in Duck, NC (stunning beach mansion on the sound). It was everything we had ever wanted and the weather was absolute perfect. My big ‘bear’ (Bernese Mountain Dog named Lady Bear) was my ring bearer and is in some of the photos below.

Emily’s Wedding Dress Preservation

Emily really did have a fantastic wedding day celebration! Unfortunately, her Kitty Chen satin wedding dress with beautiful Alecon lace overlay showed it. It had a severely dirty hemline and the bodice had makeup on it. The bustle was torn on the back left side.

We gave Emily’s wedding dress hemline a chemical pre-treatment followed by an extensive wedding dress cleaning. Our goal is to always return a gown to pristine condition. We also repaired the tear with silk thread which is so fine, you can hardly see it. Although, with tears on the “tulle” part of the lace, it is impossible to make the tear completely invisible.

Emily’s dress turned out absolutely amazing. The hemline is perfectly clean and the tear is hardly noticeable at all.

We followed the wedding dress cleaning with Museum Method™ wedding dress preservation. This will help protect her wedding gown from yellowing, and permanent creasing. It also reduces the chance of mildew or mold if it is stored properly (in a dry closet, not adjacent to an outside wall). Best of all she can admire her gown anytime she likes.
