Who Should Clean My Gown? – Kimberly’s Story

by Kimberly H. I bought my wedding dress at David’s Bridal. The only reason I went to David’s Bridal is because they were the only bridal store that sold petite wedding gowns. The designer is Oleg Cassini — Jacqueline Kennedy’s designer.  I always loved the way she dressed: classic, elegant and sophisticated. I loved this dress after I tried it on. After my wedding, I Googled dry cleaners in Charlotte, North Carolina  and surrounding areas to have my dress cleaned. Heritage Garment Preservation came up — and it was even recommended by The Knot! — but I...

Vera Wang Transformation: Before and After

This beautiful silk and lace Vera Wang Luxe is the perfect wedding dress for the beautiful and dainty bride. Unfortunately, after a long wedding day and a dry cleaning attempt gone wrong (oh no!!), this beautiful dress was looking a little worse for wear.  The delicate gown suffered from makeup stains, sweat stains, and a severely dirty hemline (with who knows what on it!) when it arrived at Heritage Garment Preservation. But it was no match for our hand-cleaning treatment! BEFORE AFTER The delicate fabrics that made up the Vera Wang wedding dress were in good hands at...

Embellished Wedding Gown Restoration

It’s so rewarding to see already-beautiful gowns transform during our cleaning and preservation products. These gowns obviously have special memories to go with them if the owners are taking the time to clean and preserve them for future generations to keep or wear again. Before Wedding Dress Restoration This white satin wedding dress with lace and pearl embellishments was in surprisingly good condition considering its age– however the mildly dirty hemline and yellow spots on the front kept it from truly shining the way it used to. Upon closer inspection to the hem of the dress...

SURPRISE! A Wedding Gown Restoration Story

We couldn’t be more honored to be a part of a truly special surprise. Best of luck to Miranda and her mother Kim in pulling off this wonderful surprise! by Kim Stevens This dress is being preserved because my daughter, Miranda Stevens, wants to wear her Grandma’s wedding dress for her August 2017 wedding.  Grandma does NOT know that she is planning on wearing it and our hope is to surprise her when we go to “try on dresses.” (We’ve tried to slyly ask details and actually had to sneak into their house to get pictures!) My Mom’s name is Betty (Mathews)...

Vintage or just old? Before and after

When this bride slipped on her sparkling, ornamented gown, we’re sure she knew her wedding day would be one to remember. What she might not have known is that her wedding dress, white, shining, and perfect as it was on the day of her wedding, would not be the same after the festivities or years later. When her dress arrived at HGP, it was wrinkled, yellowed, stained, and just felt old. While vintage is all the rage, no one wants their dress to have a vintage smell! 🙂 The intricate beading was barely holding on, half of the dress was yellowed, and the stains were hard to...

Melissa’s Wedding Gown Story: Memories to pass on

Note from HGP: We love how Melissa’s gown has the crystal beading down the center – front and back. It adds the perfect sparkle! Her pearl buttons are also a rare sight- most dresses we work with use cloth buttons. We’re so grateful Melissa took the time to share her sweet story with us!   Melissa K. purchased her Allure Couture bridal gown from Flares Bridal + Formal in Walnut Creek, CA. She wed her husband Louis at the Berkeley City Club in March 2015, just 2 weeks after giving birth to their 3rd child. Their reception was held at 1300 on Fillmore in beautiful San...

Before and After: From Pumpkin to…

If you need to be convinced to restore your wedding gown, look no further than our amazing before and after dress transformations. Some of the dresses seriously go from rags, to, well, this:   This dress transformation is certainly no exception! Pre-Transformation, everything about this dress is sort of “ho-hum.” There’s nothing that stands out despite the dress obviously being a very old, vintage piece that needs to be preserved. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll– but is it too late?   After Heritage Garment Preservation was able to work its...

HGP Cleans Up Best on Good Morning America

A phone call from a customer alerted us to a Good Morning America program in which two wedding dresses that we had cleaned were spotlighted. The first was a very full, Maggie Sottero satin wedding gown we cleaned and preserved in June. The second wedding dress was a white badly stained gown we treated in August. Maggie Sottero Wedding gown Cleaning The beige Maggie Sottero wedding dress was brought in by Deborah’s husband, Jason. We love it when a husband orders wedding dress cleaning and preservation for his wife’s wedding gown! What a great way to show love. We were...

A Dress for Time and Time Again

It’s not often that we can see a dress come to life quite like this– we’re so fortunate to have Lisa Seago share some of the history of an amazing dress that we had the privilege to preserve for years to come.   The first time this gown was worn, it was in 1953. It wasn’t worn again for almost 20 years! Then it was worn three more times– and in the same church each time! What a wonderful tradition to have been kept alive for so long. When the gown arrived at HGP, it certainly looked as if it had some history behind it. Yellowing is a natural...
